What is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is a safe and effective way of delivering fractionated radiofrequency energy into the skin itself as well as into the deeper layers below. The energy is delivered through a set of tiny (micro) needles that rapidly penetrate the skin with each pulse. Depending on the tip that is used, energy level, depth of penetration, and manner of application the device can be used to resurface the top layer of skin, promote collagen formation, tighten the skin, destroy fat cells, and even inhibit sweat glands. This leads to tighter, healthier, smoother, and more even toned skin.

The Morpheus8 system can be used in a variety of ways, but here are some of the more popular applications:

• Resurfacing to improve fines lines and wrinkles, especially those around the eyes and mouth (smoker’s lines and smile lines).

Morpheus8 can be used on all skin types and so the exclusions are very limited. As seen from the various applications of this system, it is something that many patients can benefit from one way or another. Most of the morpheus8 patients in our practice are either focusing on stubborn wrinkles that cannot be treated with fillers or botox, improving the quality of skin (especially the neck), or treating acne scars. Dr. Zhuravsky thoroughly evaluates each patient in order to give them a realistic expectation and determine if this will be beneficial for their concerns.

The Morpheus8 Procedure

Morpheus8 is a minimally invasive procedure that is quickly and simply performed in the office. A high grade numbing ointment is applied to the target area and allowed to sit for 30 – 60 minutes. The areas are then cleansed and Dr. Zhuravsky begins the treatment. Patients are also given the option of using our Nitronox system during the procedure. The device handpiece is pressed against the skin as it very rapidly delivers radiofrequency through it’s array of microneedles. This is repeated until the target area is fully treated to the desired extent. A very thin layer of a light ointment is applied and patients are able to go home.

As most minimally invasive treatments, Morpheus should be repeated 3 to 5 times, separated by 4-6 weeks for ideal results.

Patients begin to notice results after 2-4 weeks, however the maximal results are noted at 3 – months as the body forms collagen, turns over the skin, and heals itself.

Morpheus8 Pain level

The level of pain associated with Morpheus8 depends on the depth, energy level, and area being treated. Higher energy levels such as those used for fat ablation and more significant tightening tend to have more discomfort. However, the use of our high grade custom numbing ointment greatly reduces the discomfort and patients typically describe it as not pleasant but tolerable. For those that are more sensitive and want additional pain relief, we offer the Nitronox system, which delivers a fast acting nitrous gas that patients can inhale on demand.

Morpheus8 Downtime

The downtime after Morpheus8 is very minimal, ranging from 1 to 4 days and depends on the type of treatment performed. In most cases there is a notable redness during the first 1-2 days, similar to that of a sunburn, but this fades quickly over the next few days. There may also be some mild peeling / dry skin that is more often experienced with the superficial resurfacing type treatments.

Morpheus8 After Care

Patients are asked to avoid any harsh cleansers or ointments during the first few days. We encourage patients to wash the treated area with either tepid water and/or a gentle wash like Cerave.

Patients are also asked to use a mild moisturizer that can be as simple as plain aquaphor, or other topicals with hyaluronic acid, ceramides etc …. However, AVOID any topicals that contain retinol, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, Salicylic Acids, Glycolic acid, or other similar products that encourage skin shedding or turn over. If in doubt, bring your moisturizer in for Dr. Z to evaluate and approve.

Also AVOID exercise, excess sun exposure, and swimming for 48 hours following treatment.

Make up can be applied after 48-72 hours, depending on the extent of treatment.
